Natural oscillations in coupled geomorphic systems: An alternative origin for cyclic sedimentation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Internally oscillating cycles of cutting and filling occur naturally in many coupled geomorphic systems. As a demonstration, we have modeled stream entrenchment and backfilling where alluvial systems couple to uplifting mountain blocks. This simple model tracks bedrock stream erosion and transport of alluvium to base level. Internal oscillations arise from coupling of a kinematic wave model for mountain erosion to a diffusion model for the alluvial basin. Decaying periodic cutting and filling occur on time scales of 10 yr; the largest magnitudes are found at the coupling point. Model results suggest that cyclic sedimentation may result from the tintinnabulation of single perturbations applied to natural systems and need not record cyclic changes in climate, tectonics, or base level.

Caristi Type Cyclic Contraction and Coupled Fixed Point Results in Bipolar Metric Spaces
In this paper, we establish the existence of common coupled fixed point results for new Caristi type contraction of three covariant mappings in Bipolar metric spaces. Some interesting consequences of our results are achieved. Moreover, we give an illustration which presents the applicability of the achieved results.

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Soil erosion by water is a dominant geomorphic process which threatens food security in most parts of the world .The geomorphic characteristics of a watershed play an important role in watershed hydrology, soil erosion processes and sediment yield. Geomorphic characteristics can be an indicator of soil erosion and sedimentation of a watershed. Geomorphic char...

Abstract The coupled MODFLOW-HYDRUS software package was used to produce a saturated-unsaturated flow model for a Flood Spreading System (FSS) and its associated aquifer. The study aim to improve simulations of near-surface hydrological processes, including temporal and spatial variation in groundwater recharge rates. The coupled model was built with average RMSE=1.1 and 1.3 for calibration ...
متن کاملChannelization and floodplain forests: Impacts of accelerated sedimentation and valley plug formation on floodplain forests of the Middle Fork Forked Deer River, Tennessee, USA
We evaluated the severe degradation of floodplain habitats resulting from channelization and concomitant excessive coarse sedimentation on the Middle Fork Forked Deer River in west Tennessee from 2000 to 2003. Land use practices have resulted in excessive sediment in the tributaries and river system eventually resulting in sand deposition on the floodplain, increased overbank flooding, a rise i...
